Coronavirus, Social Distancing and all that stuff....

Welshtown Haven is not a "Haven", nor is it associated to the medical field. We're just a simple house in the woods for the most part isolated from the people around, who in turn add up to a low population density.

We're also currently booked... So, sorry, the Inn is full.

We've done a quick read of the article the above graph / picture is from and believe it offers some perspective. Please don't take this BLOG entry as authoritative, nor as guidance of any way. It's just to provide a heads up. Everyone else is doing it.... We're joining the band wagon with this one.

Like we did with the recent Hurricane, we'll attempt to post within Facebook any worth while reference material. A thread was started a few days ago with the above link being the first post. Much of what is written above is that original post.

Keep a heads up on what's happening. If you find value in the Facebook post and all of the links it provides, please "Like" the post. It tells us, our efforts are valued. 2018 - Inside Welshtown Haven (with a couple newer photos)

The above photo is of the Apple Tree in the middle of the backyard. Last couple weeks we've talked about other things, things other then what is "Welshtown Haven". It is good to talk about the local area; however, recently our old mechanism for posting "Blogs" changed. Welshtown Haven and Hugelkulture? The start of something more....

A brief description of Hugelkulture can be found at The Old Farmers Almanac , where the picture above is explained. The site UK Permaculture , provides the "Permaculturalist" view and Youtube "How to build a Hugelkulture Bed" , is is a short video on the topic. South Shore Nova scotia was originally formed through Glacial Erosion and Deposition . Different areas have different Soil Types , some Clay, others Sandy. Welshtown Haven is sitting on Silt. Silt makes excellent Loam; however, the trick in the transition is organic matter. When it rains (non summer months) it rains hard. Due to the soil, it filters down into the water table leaving the surface dry. What is missing is a solid layer of organic matter or loam. While an old growth deciduous forest would provide this, the predominant overstory has been coniferous. Over the years South Shore has been logged, harvesting the old growth and allowing the fertile upper layer of loam soil to wash away. So, the so...
