The Neutral Position of Business Owners.

The above meme was created by the young family that run the Omnivore's Homestead And Quivers Web Site and Facebook page.

Yes, us at "Welshtown Haven" have a desire to evolve the property beyond what it currently is. At some point having some type of "Homestead" would be fun; however, we are not there yet. In the mean time, we do spend time reviewing such pages and others, that talk about keeping small farmyard animals and such. It's educational; as well as, entertaining.

The Meme, or the text of the Meme, is the point of this weeks Blog, not the "Homesteading" aspect. Maybe some day if we've some big news we'll post one or more weeks worth of content. We'd also enjoy talking about local South Shore Hobby Farms / Homesteads, again a possible topic for upcoming weeks.

The issue of not speaking ones mind when representing a small enterprise is today's topic. Other then the words of the Meme, not much more to add really other then the guy was bang on! Check them out if you want, they're a simple family in Florida.

Our goal writing these Blog's is to provide some type of weekly reminder to an ever growing population of site visitors. Welshtown Haven only represents one simple All Season Weekly Rental Vacation House, located in South Shore Nova Scotia, so if we're booked with one set of guests then were done for that booking time period. Our Property Manager will work with you to find something other then our property, we'll not leave you hanging if you call. If we're not booked, then we cross our fingers and hope a vacationer picks our place.

Last fall, our property manager had the opportunity to place a work crew into our property for the off season. The option of extending into the summer and beyond was given to us, leading us to forgo the lucrative "Summer Tourism Season". With our pride swallowed, we gave our property manager the nod to allow the extended stay through the summer, into next fall. A couple months later COVID-19 hits and Tourism for 2020 is up in the air. (Yes, we got lucky!)

Now, COVID-19, as well as Economic problems has struck, and recently our Southern Neighbour is undergoing some social / cultural difficulties. As individuals, we've shaken our heads and "Chatted" online with others regarding all of these things; however, our "Business" footprint has for the most part remained neutral on all of these things. Yes, regarding COVID-19 we have attempted to provide the most current, up to date links that help our audience understand what is happening. Yes, we have posted about the current inter-provincial travel restrictions (an ever changing and evolving topic). We've not dove into nor do we intend upon diving into anything deeper.

Welshtown Haven is an All Season, Weekly Rental Vacation House that will serve Vegans and Omnivorous equally. We do ask that our guests use our property with respect; however, we also recognize no guest is perfect and cleaning staff will work to make our next guest as happy as the last. That's our business, nothing special. Our goal as a business is to serve the public without discrimination (No pets or Smoking in the house please).

Our thoughts and hopes are that 2021 will provide a more mundane, boring set of events. Fingers crossed.

Mary, Our Property Manager can be reached at phone number (902) 982-2346. If you are interested in vacationing short term or long term in South Shore, give Mary a call.

We (Management) can be reached by phone number (902) 875-2215, if you have any other difficulties.

Be safe and respectful during these times of change.

Equipped with easy loading, semi automatic, trimmer head and metal blade. E-TECH® engine for reduced emissions. >> Ya, okay.... that's the first review that comes up for this thing in Google (at least for us). With search criteria of "husqvarna 128rj review", you don't get much. I'm sure if we pop into the Amazon link they'll have something. Now, what's our experience with this durable item? This is a BLOG and that typically means a bit of a story. We will not fault the Dayton dealer, in the Canadian community of Yarmouth County. They were responsible and respectable while purchasing the trimmer, chainsaw and lawnmower back 4 years ago. Taking the trimmer back late this summer, they were also polite an

Welshtown Haven and Hugelkulture? The start of something more....

A brief description of Hugelkulture can be found at The Old Farmers Almanac , where the picture above is explained. The site UK Permaculture , provides the "Permaculturalist" view and Youtube "How to build a Hugelkulture Bed" , is is a short video on the topic. South Shore Nova scotia was originally formed through Glacial Erosion and Deposition . Different areas have different Soil Types , some Clay, others Sandy. Welshtown Haven is sitting on Silt. Silt makes excellent Loam; however, the trick in the transition is organic matter. When it rains (non summer months) it rains hard. Due to the soil, it filters down into the water table leaving the surface dry. What is missing is a solid layer of organic matter or loam. While an old growth deciduous forest would provide this, the predominant overstory has been coniferous. Over the years South Shore has been logged, harvesting the old growth and allowing the fertile upper layer of loam soil to wash away. So, the so

Upcoming Town and Municipal elections...

Titan can be heard snarling and barking like a ferocious wild animal while he sleeps. He is dreaming. About what, I don't think anyone really knows. By day, he is a lovable Labrador quietly nudging for attention. Everybody has dreams. Some dreams we have while we sleep while others dreams while awake. It is these wakeful dreams of what could be, that can drive things forward or possibly into stagnation if they are to wild or ungoverned.  The Town Shelburne has an upcoming election for Town Council. The candidates are projecting what they believe they can accomplish and the towns people are looking for a way forward. Of concern for all are the Budgetary issues. Other common issues look to be available activities for youth, the cost of food, the Rail Trail and the issue of growth. Growth will occur within the area over time regardless of it being managed or not. No one has a crystal ball that sees into the future. Looking into the past to project a future vision can be difficult. M
