Mi’kmaw Chiefs Declare State of Emergency within the province of Nova Scotia. While performing our managerial review we had the opportunity to speak with some of the locals about the current fishing issues and received a perspective on the topic.
Yes, we could delve down into the current issue on a blow by blow basis; however, Welshtown Haven is not a news outlet nor is it about spreading perspectives of local events.
What is of interest for Welshtown Haven is that this host community is yet again in the news. Yes again? You the reader may scratch ones head on that so, well, this little town looks to make the news, headline news, a lot more often then many other small communities of similar size.
Case in point, January 6, 2018 the supposedly sleepy town of Shelburne Nova Scotia made the headlines with regard to the Farley Mowat ship owner ordered to pay $144K to Town of Shelburne. Other instances of this town making the news can be found, not all of it positive; however, it has made the news!
The town is steeped in history and we've written about that to some degree before. As a source of material for the next generation of historians, they'll probably find this little town to be a good source of material for a page or two of writing.
This current state of emergency and how the sleepy town is reacting to this Emergency? The Mayor of the town has released a statement (Below) to the local MP, CCing the Prime Minister of Canada.
Sorry for not providing a Weekly Blog the last little bit. Due to COVID-19 and other logistical issues, the ability to find some positive news worthy posts to promote our All Season, Weekly Rental Vacation House has been difficult to come by. Is that little point of land worth talking about? Yep, but.... We need something to push to make a Blog. Things just don't happen every week (thankfully!).
Look up the current problem on your own to gain some insight. From the Towns perspective, it is a Fisheries issue, from the Mi’kmaw position it is deeper. Again, from our perspective it is worth mentioning, but is to much of a political hot potato for us to delve deep into it, other then to say, a peaceful responsible resolution to the issues at hand would be most favourable.
